Digital delay or reverb?

Message  Mummenhoff Marc le Dim 3 Jan - 21:01

I wonder,
recently my reverb of my fender Steel King is broken an i use for the moment a digital delay from Boss.
I'm not satisfied about the sound of this Digital Delay. (no nature sound)
I was always satisfied about the reverb from the amp but for the moment i have no choice.
I had something about reverbs? My two other steelamps in the past were a peavey nashville 400 and a peavey session 500 - also after a while the reverbs of this amps were also broken?
Do you guys (other steelies) use only the reverb from the amp or also other stuf like Delays and so on, or a combination of both?
Is there a good delay-reverb machine on the market, with a very good sound?
What delay or reverb brand is very good and what is the price of those things?

I use a Boss RV3 (delay+reverb) or a Korg Pandora X4 (multieffect) and I like them both.
Boss DD3 and Boss RV5 are used by many steel guitarists

To make your choice:
digital reverb and delay pedals:

digital delay/reverb/multieffects processors:

Hi guys, thanks for the info
Just one question.
Do you totally not use the sound of your reverb from your amp?
You shut down the reverb of the amp and just use only the effectpedals?
For me that's new.
i play about 32 years pedalsteel just using the reverb of my amp and that's all.
So using effects is new for me.
But i think i have made my choice, i go for the RV5 boss digital reverb.
A digital delay i already have (a DD2- model) - I bought it many years ago but never used it.

Marc,
Reverb and delay are two different effects.
I think the digital reverb more practical than spring reverb (no accidental noise and no hum)
Fender, Evans, and Peavey spring reverbs are efficient and good quality but new digital equipments seem more versatile. And I don't think that spring reverb units gives a "natural" sound.
Some famous great steelers say Boss DD2 delay stays the best!

They say:"only reverb for jazz and western swing, but with a bit of delay for new country and other music".

The digital effect pedals or pods are very good for stage but specialists use professional effect processors in rack for studio.

Marc,

If you like the simple amp reverb, look this pedale (boss FRV 1)

it's very simple and a very good copy of fender's reverb

I use for the moment a RV5 digital reverb + DD2 digital delay. (i bought the reverb recently)
A new world is opening for me now - what a sound.
And then to say that i used for 32 years only the spring reverb from my amps.
But i think if you overused this effects you can manage to cover up many mistakes. It sound anyway.
So i'm glad that i learned and play the steel for all those years without those effects. My steel Emmons LeGrande SKH-D10 sounded with spring reverb also good.
But for the moment my instrumentals that i played sounded even better now with those 2 boss pedals.
Keep on steelin'
